Men's basketball falls to Albright in season opener

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team dropped its 2022-23 season opener, 90-76, to nearby foe Albright College in non-conference action on Tuesday evening.

In the opening four minutes of the game, Jeff Lorah and Andre Ballard each knocked down two 3-pointers and Darik Tannis-Harriet added a layup to give the Nittany Lions an early 14-0 lead. Albright methodically worked its way back and tied the score at 16-all with 12:31 remaining. The teams exchanged lead changes and ties over the next couple of minutes before Albright closed out the half on a 13-4 run to take a 45-39 lead into the break.

In the second half, the Lions expanded their lead to 13 points (62-49) with 13:30, but Berks closed the gap to 66-63 over the next five minutes of game action. Over the next four minutes, Albright used a 17-2 run to take control of the contest.

Lorah finished the game 5-of-10 from 3-point range for a contest-high 19 points. Tannis-Harriet chipped in 13 points and seven boards, while Ballard added 12 points and two blocked shots. Isaiah Cotten turned in a strong all-around performance with 10 points, six rebounds, five assists, and seven steals. 

Isaac Lapierre led the Lions with 14 points, followed by Chris Kouemi with 13 and Dylan McGinley with 12.

The Nittany Lions will compete this weekend in the Elmira College Tip-Off Tournament. They face Cazenovia College on Friday, November 11 at 5 p.m.
