Volleyball tops Gallaudet in semifinals

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team topped Gallaudet University, 3-1, in the United East Semifinal round on the campus of SUNY Morrisville on Friday evening. With the win, Berks will head to the United East Championship for the first time since 2014.

The Nittany Lions (19-9) pulled out a 27-25 and 25-23 in the first two sets, but the Bison (19-15) responded with a thrilling 27-25 win in the third to stave of defeat. Berks then clinched the match with the largest margin of victory by a 25-21 margin.

Cassie Shoupe finished with a team-high 14 kills, followed by Jordan Thompson with 10 and Aubrey Hunt with nine. Makenzie Shoop chipped in eight kills, while Sarah Nichols followed with six. Julia Rathsam recorded a game-highs of 43 assists and 21 digs, while Riley Kovach followed with 19 digs and Shoupe had 11.  Diana Stoltzfus and Rathsam each tallied a pair of service aces. 

Berks will face host SUNY Morrisville in the United East title game at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 5. The winner of that contest will earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
