Women's volleyball falls to Mustangs in title game

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback to SUNY Morrisville in the United East Championship on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions fell by game scores of 25-14, 25-23, 25-17 in their first trip to the conference title game since 2014. The Mustangs (23-7) have now won the conference crown for the fourth time in five seasons.

Cassie Shoupe finished with a team-high 10 kills, followed by Aubrey Hunt with seven and Sarah Nichols with five. Julia Rathsam had 22 assists and eight digs, while Riley Kovach had a team-high 10 digs.

The Nittany Lions finished the 2022 season with an overall record of 19-10, while going 6-2 in the United East and earning the third seed in the conference tournament. Berks avenged a late season loss to Gallaudet University with a convincing 3-1 win in the semifinal round on Friday night. Though Berks will bid farewell to four seniors (Shoupe, Nichols, Rathsam, and Adriana Leon-Vazquez), the returners and newcomers will look to find themselves back in the conference playoffs next season.
