Women's basketball falls to Hood in home opener

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team dropped a 67-52 decision to Hood College in the Nittany Lions home opener in non-conference action on Tuesday evening.

The Blazers jumped out to an 18-10 lead after the first quarter, but Berks fought back and trailed 36-29 at the intermission. The Nittany Lions pulled within five points (49-44) with 43 seconds remaining in the third quarter, but Hood was able to pull away late in the fourth to pick up the win.

Lyla Spencer was again the leading scorer for the game, finishing with 20 points to go along with five steals, four rebounds, two assists, and one blocked shot. Kathrynn Weller finished with eight points, while Katie Davis chipped six points. Jalyn Hann recorded five points and a team-high 10 boards, while Lekaiah Solomon finished with five points and eight rebounds.

The Blazers were led by Na'Vaye Quarles with 16 points, followed by Tam Stanford with 10. Philippa Clouse added nine points, 14 rebounds, and three blocked shots.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Keystone College for a non-conference contest on Friday, November 18 at 7 p.m.
