WBB falls to Bryn Mawr in season opener

BRYN MAWR, PA - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team dropped its 2022-23 season opener, 55-48, to Bryn Mawr College in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions led 9-7 at the end of the first quarter, but the home team battled back in the second period and the teams went into the intermission tied at 19-all. The Owls (2-0) outscored Berks by an 18-6 margin to build up 37-25 lead going into the final 10 minutes of regulation. In the fourth quarter, Berks got its deficit down to as low as six points on several occasions, but they were unable to finish of the comeback bid.

Lyla Spencer shot 9-of-15 from the field to finish with a team-high 22 points, followed by freshman Hailey Miller with 13 points to go with her three steals. Jalyn Hann, who scored six points, had a contest-high 12 rebounds, followed by Lekaiah Solomon with eight and Miller with six.

The Owls were led by Jessica Smith with 20 points and seven boards, while Hannah Binder added 11 points and six rebounds.

The Nittany Lions will host their home opener against Hood College on Tuesday, November 15 at 6 p.m.
