Women's soccer draws with York, 2-2

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team responded to an early second half deficit with a pair of goals in a 2-2 draw with York College in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions move to 8-3-2 on the season, while the Spartans move to 6-3-3 overall.

The teams played through a scoreless first half that did not see many scoring opportunities from either side.

Out of the break, Makayla Harper scored a pair of unassisted goals within the first 1:18 of action in the second half. After the defense failed to clear the ball, Harper cleaned up the loose ball and sent a shot inside the left post for a 1-0 edge at the 45:44 mark of the game. Just 44 seconds later, followed a Berks save, Harper collected the rebound and deposited another shot inside the left post for a 2-0 lead.

In the 59th minute, Faith Wavershak worked her way through traffic and played a ball into the box to Adriana Lepera. Lepera took a touch and beat the keeper for her seventh goal of the season. Just over a minute later, Emily Clapper flipped a shot up and over the keeper from inside the box to even the score at 2-2 with ninth goal of the year.

In the final 30 minutes of play, Berks had two corner kicks and the Spartans had a pair of shots, but neither team could find the go-ahead score.

Sophia Gonzalez finished with seven saves in goal for Berks, while Jacqueline Keogh made five stops for York.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Gallaudet University for an United East contest on Saturday, October 15 at 1 p.m.
