Gleason leads Nittany Lions to win over Penn College

READING, PA - Shane Gleason's big day helped lead the Penn State Berks men's soccer team to a 4-1 victory over Penn College in an United East contest on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions improved to 3-8-1 on the season and 2-3 in the United East, while the Wildcats fall to 2-8-3 overall and 1-3-1 in the conference.

Gleason was involved in all four of the scoring plays for Berks. The sophomore forward opened up the scoring with a goal at the 18:14 mark with Gavin Dai providing the assist. Gleason then scored off a cross by Ryan Miller to give Berks a 2-0 lead in the 29th minute.

In the 67th minute, Owen VayDyke played a ball through the defense that Gleason then slipped past the keeper for a 3-0 edge. In the 70th minute, Gleason assisted on a goal off a header by Thomas Andress.

The Wildcats successfully converted a penalty kick at the 89:01 mark to get on the scoreboard.

Mark Pirrone picked up the win in net after recording four saves, while two Wildcat keepers combined for three stops.

The Nittany Lions will host Goucher College on Tuesday, October 11 at 4 p.m.
