Women's soccer tops Abington, 6-1

ABINGTON, PA - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team defeated Penn State Abington, 6-1, on the road in an United East contest on Wednesday afternoon.

Berks improves to 7-3-1 on the season and 3-0-1 in United East play, while Abington drops to 4-7-1 on the year and 2-2 in conference action.

Four different players did all of the scoring for Berks. Sara Hathaway netted a hat trick, while handing out a pair of assists. Emily Clapper, Jeyda Duran, and Adriana Lepera all score a goal and recorded an assist in the winning effort.

Clapper tallied the first goal of the contest at the 27:41 mark of the first half. Hathaway tallied the next two goals to give Berks a 3-0 lead going into the halftime break. Out of the intermission, Duran found the back of the net in the 60th minute and Hathaway followed at 78:11. Abington got on the board with an unassisted goal by Grace Burns at the 79:31 mark, but Lepera answered back with a score at 80:30.

Sophia Gonzalez finished with three saves in net for Berks, while Rachel Wilfrid had 12 stops for Abington.

Berks outshot Abington by a 27-11 margin (18-4 on goal) and held a 9-3 advantage on corner kicks.

Berks will host Penn College on Saturday, October 8 at 1 p.m. The women's soccer team will join up with the men's team to host their annual Pink Game fundraiser with all proceeds benefiting the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County.
