Women's soccer downs St. Mary's, 2-0

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team defeated St. Mary's College, 2-0, in an United East contest on Saturday afternoon.

Prior to the game, the Nittany Lions honored Emily Clapper, Jeyda Duran, and Sara Hathaway with Senior Day recognition.

The Nittany Lions improved to 10-4-2 overall and 6-0-1 in the United East, while the Seahawks dropped to 7-7-4 on the season and 5-2 in the conference.

Berks maintained possession through most of the opening half, but did not have anything on the scoreboard to show for it. Following a Seahawks foul, Diana Pon sent a free kick into the box that Clapper was able to redirect past the keeper to give Berks a 1-0 edge at the 37:14 mark.

The score remained that way until the 65th minute when Hathaway carried the ball from midfield past the defense and snuck a line drive by the keeper to make it 2-0.

Sophia Gonzalez finished with three saves to earn the shutout win, while Kylie Wells made three stops for the Seahawks.

The Nittany Lions will host the University of Scranton in a non-conference contest on Wednesday, October 26 at 7 p.m.
