Men's soccer shuts out Maritime, 2-0

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's soccer team defeated SUNY Maritime, 2-0, in a non-conference contest on Sunday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions improved to 5-9-1 on the season, while the Privateers drop to 1-10-3 overall.

Berks got on the board with the first goal of the game after a cross in the box by Shane Gleason that Ryan Miller was able to put into the far back corner. The score was Miller's fourth of the season, while Gleason picked up his team-leading fourth assist of the season.

The score remained 1-0 in favor of Berks until the 53rd minute when the lead expanded on a goal by Owen VanDyke on a cross from the end line by Alex Chamorro. VanDyke, who had a had trick in yesterday's win over Gallaudet, now has four goals on the season, it was the first assist of the year for Chamorro.

Ethan Brazier came up with a pair of saves on the only two shots on target, while Privateer keeper Danny Madeira finished with three stops. Berks outshot Maritime by an 18-6 margin (6-2 on goal), while the Privateers held a 4-2 advantage on corner kicks.

The Nittany Lions will host St. Mary's College on Saturday, October 22 at 3:30 p.m. Saturday's game will be Senior Day recognition as well as a Mental Health Awareness Game.
