Volleyball sweeps home tri-match

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team defeated Penn State Abington, 3-1, and Penn College, 3-0, to earn a sweep in an United East tri-match on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions improve to 11-8 on the season and 3-1 in conference play. Against Abington, Berks won by scores of 25-23 and 25-19, before Abington stayed alive with a 28-26 thriller. Berks jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back as they clinched the win with a 25-11 triumph.

Aubrey Hunt had a contest-high 13 kills, followed by Diana Stoltzfus with 11. Cassie Shoupe and Sarah Nichols each finished with 10 kills. Julia Rathsam dished out 51 assists to go along with 11 digs and four kills, while Riley Kovach had 21 digs. Shoupe finished with five service aces and Stoltzfus added two.

The Nittany Lions then topped Penn College by scores of 25-14, 25-13, 25-18.

Shoupe led Berks with 10 kills, followed by Jordan Thompson (8). Kovach led Berks with 13 digs, Rathsam and Shoupe both had 12. Rathsam had 37 assists and four aces, Shoupe added three aces.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Albright College for a non-conference contest on Monday, October 17 at 7 p.m.
