Volleyball swept on second day of Battlefield Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GETTYSBURG, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions to Montclair State University and Penn State Altoona on the second day of the Battlefield Classic.

Kayla Zelonka was named to the All-Tournament team, which was announced by host Gettysburg College following the conclusion of play on Saturday afternoon. Zelonka recorded 14 kills, three solo blocks, and three block assists in four games played.

In the opener, Montclair State won by game scores of 25-15, 25-18, 25-16.

Makenzie Shoop and Sarah Nichols tied for the team lead in kills with six, while Cassie Shoupe followed with five. Madison Hetrick had 18 assists and led the Nittany Lions with 11 digs to along with one service ace and one kill. Shoop and Shoupe each recorded eight digs, while Natalia Perez added seven.

In the second match of the day, Altoona claimed the win by scores of 25-16, 25-21, 25-18.

Shoop again collected six kills, which led the team, while Shoupe, Nichols, and Madison Wright followed with three kills apiece. Hetrick recorded 13 assists and 10 digs. Marie Durkota had a team-high 14 digs, followed by Perez with 11.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Franklin & Marshall College for a non-conference contest on Wednesday, September 8 at 7 p.m.
