Men's soccer edged in double OT by LBC

LANCASTER, PA - The Penn State Berks men's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker, 2-1, in double overtime to Lancaster Bible College on Wednesday in the Nittany Lions first United East Conference contest.

The Chargers wasted no time getting on the board when Chad Tolson struck with his six goal of the season 40 seconds into the opening half. The Nittany Lions defense settled in and the held LBC off the board the remainder of the period.

In the second half, Berks knotted the game in the 49th minute with some a couple of quick passes inside the box following a turnover around midfield by the Chargers. Shane Gleason sent a pass to the right side of the box to Jonathon Morello, that he quickly kicked to his left to Matt Holmes. Holmes passed it to his left where Gleason was to fire into the top right corner for his first goal of the season.

Jose Aparicio made a pair of saves in the over the remaining minutes of regulation to send the match into overtime.

Neither team put a shot on frame in the first overtime contest, which meant Berks would be playing their third double overtime contest of the season.

In the next extra period, the Chargers collected a loose ball around midfield and worked down into the box. The Berks defense knocked down an attempt to cross, but the ball stayed right in the middle for Matthew Eufemia to send into the back of the net at the 101:44 mark.

Aparicio finished the game with five saves in net for the Nittany Lions. The Chargers held an 8-1 advantage in shots on goal and had an 11-2 margin on corner kicks.

The Nittany Lions will continue conference play with a home contest against Morrisville State on Saturday, September 25 at 1 p.m.
