Nittany Lions rally comes up short at Wilkes

EDWARDSVILLE, PA - The Penn State Berks men's soccer team rallied down the stretch, but could not climb all the back in a 4-3 setback to Wilkes University in the season opener for both teams on Thursday evening.

The Colonels scored three times in the first half and added another score in the 58th minute. The score remained 4-0 until sophomore Jonathan Morello found the back of the net at the 73:10 mark, Ryan Curnew assisted on the play. Less than a minute later, Berks earned a corner kick and Garrett Bland was able to slip a shot inside the right post during a scrum in front of the net. In the 86th minute, Mark Pirrone curled a shot in the far top corner off a free kick to pull the Nittany Lions within a goal of tying the match. Berks battled the remainder of the game, but could not complete the comeback bid.

Jose Aparicio finished with five saves in net for the Nittany Lions. Sophomore Colin Lewis was not challenged during the final 21 minutes of action.

The Nittany Lions will host Lebanon Valley College on Wednesday, September 8 at 7 p.m. Fans planning to attend the contest can find spectator information by clicking here.
