Nittany Lions split tri-match at Marywood

SCRANTON, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team split a tri-match at Marywood University on Friday night. The Nittany Lions defeated host Marywood, 3-1, in the opener, before seeing their six-game win streak come to an end in a 3-1 setback to Lebanon Valley College.

In the opener, Berks won 25-19 and 25-18, before falling 25-19 to the Pacers. The Nittany Lions clinched the victory with a 25-20 triumph in the fourth game.

Sarah Nichols recorded a team-high 10 kills, while Makenzie Shoop and Cassie Shoupe both chipped in nine kills. Kayla Zelonka added six kills and Amelia Magazzu had five. Julia Rathsam handed out 30 assists to go along with 13 digs and two block assists. Marie Durkota recorded a game-high 17 digs, followed by Shoupe with 15. Madison Hetrick had a contest-best five aces, while also registering nine digs.

Against LVC, Berks took the opening game 27-25, but the Dutchmen ran three straight by scores of 25-19, 25-19, 25-22.

Shoupe knocked out a team-high 12 kills, while Zelonka and Nichols both had eight. Rathsam recorded 33 assists and nine digs. Durkota had a team-high 17 digs, followed by Shoupe with 15 and Natalia Perez with 13. Perez and Shoupe both tallied a pair of aces.

The Nittany Lions will host Albright College in a non-conference contest on Monday, September 20 at 6 p.m.
