Women's volleyball downs Albright, 3-1

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team had a huge rally in the fourth set for the second time in less than a week, this most recent one gave the Nittany Lions a 3-1 victory over visiting Albright College on Monday evening.

Berks won the first two games by scores of 25-23 and 25-16, but the Lions took the third by a score of 25-19. The fourth game appeared to be going Albright's way with a 20-13 lead, but Berks recorded six unanswered points to get the deficit down to 1 (20-19). After an Albright error made it 22-22, the teams exchanged leads and ties for the next couple of scores. Trailing 27-26, Sarah Nichols had back-to-back kills and Madison Hetrick finished things off with her fifth service ace of the night.

Hetrick, who served down the stretch against Neumann, did the same tonight as she was serving during the six-point rally and again on the final two serves of the evening. As mentioned, Hetrick recorded a contest-high five aces, while not making one serving error on her 26 attempts. The senior defensive specialist pulled down 15 digs and handed out two assists.

Nichols finished with a career-high 14 kills with a .278 attack percentage, to go along with a solo block and block assist. Cassie Shoupe followed with 12 kills, while adding eight digs and three aces. Makenzie Shoop notched 11 kills, while Kayla Zelonka had six kills, one solo block, and two block assists. Julia Rathsam recorded 41 assists, 10 digs, two block assists, and one ace. Marie Durkota, who was named conference player of the week for the second straight week, had a team-high 16 digs and added an ace. Natalia Perez rounded out the Nittany Lions with double-digit digs after registering 10.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Cabrini University for a non-conference contest on Wednesday, September 22 at 7 p.m.
