Women's volleyball tops Neumann for fourth straight win

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team won its fourth straight contest after downing Neumann College, 3-1, in a non-conference contest on Wednesday afternoon.

The highlight of the evening was the furious comeback in the fourth game to clinch the victory. Trailing 22-14, the Nittany Lions rattled off seven unanswered points to pull within one (22-21). The Knights bumped ahead to 23-21 thanks to a Berks error, but a Cassie Shoupe kill and back-to-back Neumann miscues put the Nittany Lions ahead 24-23. Neumann knotted the game at 24-all, but Makenzie Shoop slammed home a kill and an attack error by the Knights finished off the Berks comeback and sent the team and fans into an uproar with a 26-24 triumph.

Prior to the game four theatrics, Neumann claimed the first game by a 26-24 margin. The Nittany Lions overcame serving woes in the second set for a 25-14 victory and took the third game by a score of 25-15.

Shoupe and Shoop tied for the team lead with nine kills each. Shoupe also recorded three aces and nine digs, while Shoop assisted on two blocks. Sarah Nichols chipped in eight kills, followed by Amelia Magazzu with six. Kayla Zelonka had four kills and registered a pair of solo blocks and assisted on two. Julia Rathsam handed out 34 assists to go along with two aces and 12 digs, while Marie Durkota added 14 digs and two aces. Madison Hetrick picked up a contest-best 16 digs and provided great serves during the Nittany Lions game four rally.

The Nittany Lions will travel to northern Pennsylvania for a tri-match on Friday, September 17. They will face host Marywood University at 5 p.m., followed by Lebanon Valley College at 7 p.m.
