Men's soccer falls in double OT to Ramapo

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 setback in double overtime to Ramapo College in a non-conference contest on Wednesday afternoon.

Ramapo had 10 shots and four corner kicks through 40 minutes of action, but Jose Aparicio and the Nittany Lions defense had kept them off the board in that time. At the 42:35 mark of the opening half, Owen VanDyke played a ball past the defense that Mark Pirrone collected and beat the keeper inside the near post to give Berks a 1-0 lead.

In the 55th minute, the Roadrunners evened the contest at 1-all when Brian Kelly took a feed from Damian Zurawski and sent the ball into the far back corner.

Both keepers were tested over the remaining minutes of regulation with Aparicio making several impressive diving saves. The Nittany Lions also had some bad breaks as both Jonathan Morello and Pirrone had shots slam off the crossbar.

The Roadrunners had three shots in the first overtime, but were kept off the board. In the second extra frame, Kelly netted his second score in the 103rd minute to give Ramapo the victory.

Aparicio finished the contest with eight saves, while Nikolai Matthews had three stops for Ramapo.

The Nittany Lions return to action with a home contest against DeSales University on Saturday, September 18 at 1 p.m.
