Women's volleyball sweeps home tri-match

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team picked up a 3-1 win over Alvernia University and won 3-0 against Goucher College for a sweep in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions opened the day with wins of 25-14 and 25-20, before the Golden Wolves claimed the third game by a 25-23 margin. Berks bounced back with a 25-17 triumph in the fourth game to claim the victory.

Amelia Magazzu had a game-high 13 kills, followed by Makenzie Shoop with 12. Cassie Shoupe and Kayla Zelonka each had nine kills, while Sarah Nichols chipped in seven. Julia Rathsam recorded 42 assists, nine digs, five kills, and five service aces. Maria Durkota had three aces and Madison Wright picked up two. Durkota added a game-high 26 digs.

In the second contest, Berks took the match by scores of 25-18, 25-18, 25-13.

Nichols and Shoupe tied for the team lead with nine kills, followed by Shoop with seven. Rathsam had 29 assists and matched Durkota with a team-best 15 digs. Durkota again recorded three aces and Shoupe had two.

The Nittany Lions will host Bryn Athyn College in a non-conference contest on Monday, September 13 at 6 p.m.
