Nittany Lions top St. Mary's, heading to ninth straight conference title game

MIDDLETOWN, PA - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team made an early goal stand up in a 1-0 win over St. Mary's College in the United East Semifinal round on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, Berks improves to 8-8-2 overall and will advance to its ninth straight conference championship game. They will face off against Penn State Harrisburg, who they defeated in the 2019 NEAC Championship.

The Nittany Lions possessed the ball in the offensive end of the field in the early going and were able to work a corner kick. Emily Clapper sent a ball to the top of the near corner of the penalty box, which Mary King smacked out of midair into the top far corner of the net to put Berks up 1-0 at the 4:51 mark of the opening half.

Adriana Lepera took two shots and King added another over the next 20 minutes, but couldn't find the back of the net. The Seahawks put two shots on target in the span of five minutes, but Savannah McNeal was there to make the stop. Clapper had two shots in the final eight minutes of the contest, one on frame.

In the second half, St. Mary's managed six corner kicks, but did not have a single shot. The Nittany Lions had three shots and one corner, but also had nothing to show on the scoreboard.

McNeal finished with two saves, while Kylie Wells had five stops for the Seahawks.
