Nittany Lions fall in United East title game

MIDDLETOWN, PA - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 setback to Penn State Harrisburg in the United East Women's Soccer Championship on Sunday afternoon.

Berks finishes with an overall record of 8-9-2, while Harrisburg improves to 12-4-4.

Harrisburg got on the board with a goal by Kylee Altland at the 16:35 mark of the contest. Berks created several scoring chances, but could not find the equalizer until the 43rd minute. Mark King, who had the game-winning goal in the semifinal round, ripped a line drive inside the far post to even the score at 1-all.

Out of the halftime intermission, Berks had a couple of shots and corners over the first 12 minutes. In the 59th minute, Altland struck again off of a scrum in front of the net. Over the remainder of the game, Berks collected some more shots and corners, but were not able to find the back of the net.

Savannah McNeal finished with four saves in net, while Delaney Shifflett made six stops. For the game, Berks outshout Harrisburg by a 12-7 margin (8-6 on goal) and held a 7-4 advantage on corner kicks.

The Nittany Lions will bid farewell to senior defensive back Lydia Cacciola. With a strong core of players returning, as well as the recruits and transfers brought in by head coach Adrian Munteanu, the Nittany Lions will look to be back in the hunt for the conference title.
