Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer edged by Ursinus, 2-1

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 setback to Ursinus College in non-conference action on Wednesday night.

The teams had an even first half with both putting one shot on frame, but both keepers made the stops to take a scoreless tie into the intermission.

Out of the Break, Jonathan Morello put a shot on net, but the keeper made a diving stop in the 47th minute. At the 55:28 mark of the game, Ursinus got on the board with a nice sliding pass from the end line by Jack Schmidt to assist on the score by Tommy Mollis. In the 67th minute, the Berks defense failed to clear the ball out of harms way and Aidan O'Malley was able to slip a shot inside the right post.

Both teams exchanged some scoring chances down the stretch and as time was expiring Owen VanDyke was tackled inside the box for a penalty kick. The freshman midfielder took the PK and deposited a shot inside the right post for fifth goal of the season.

Jose Aparicio finished with four saves in goal for Berks, while Kyle Schantz had three saves and Kirk Ransome made one stop for the Bears.

For the game, Ursinus outshot Berks 18-11 (6-5 on goal) and held a 6-2 advantage on corners.

The Nittany Lions will play Wells College in the regular season finale on Saturday, October 30 at 1 p.m. If Berks wins and Penn State Abington loses to SUNY Morrisville, Berks will earn the final spot in the playoff tournament.
