Aparicio records shutout victory on Senior Day

READING, PA - Jose Aparicio was honored before the game for Senior Day and the celebrations continued as the Penn State Berks men's soccer team defeated Wells College, 7-0, in the season finale on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions improved to 4-13-1 overall and 4-4 in United East action, while the Express dropped to 2-15 on the year and 1-7 in the conference. Berks, unfortunately, missed out on making the postseason after Penn State Abington topped SUNY Morrisville, 3-0, to capture the final spot in the standings.

Aparicio recorded a pair of saves to raise his career total to 155, which narrowly surpassed his friend and former teammate Gerardo Sosa (154 saves) for third all-time. In addition, the senior goalkeeper ranks among the top-10 in in save percentage (.692), goals against average (2.34), wins (6), and shutouts (3).

Six different players scored goals for the Nittany Lions in the winning effort. Jonathan Morello recorded two goals and two assists, while Owen VanDyke had one goal and two assists. Alex Blatt converted a penalty kick and added an assist. Colin Plunkett, Matt Holmes, and Alex Chamorro all recorded a goal.

The Nittany Lions will eye a return to the conference postseason with the bulk of this year's team set to return next season.
