Men's soccer drops heartbreaker to Abington

ABINGTON, PA - The Penn State Berks men's soccer team dropped a 3-2 decision to Penn State Abington in an United East Conference contest on Wednesday afternoon.

Berks falls to 3-11-1 on the season and 3-3 in the United East, while Abington is now 5-6-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the conference.

Berks struck first with a pair of goals in the first half. At the 18:43 mark, Mark Pirrone crossed a ball from the end line that Matt Holmes easily redirected into the open net for an early 1-0 lead. In the 43rd minute, Pirrone put a shot in the top left corner off a pass from Jonathan Morello to take a 2-0 lead into the halftime intermission.

Out of the break, Abington took advantage of a defensive breakdown to net a goal at 53:46. Abington found the equalizer in the 64th minute and went ahead 3-2 with a score in the 79th minute.

The only scoring opportunity that Berks could work up in the second half was a line drive shot by Shane Gleason that slammed off the cross bar.

Jose Aparicio finished with four saves in net, while his counterpart Brendan Werner had five stops.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Penn State Harrisburg for United East Conference action on Saturday, October 23 at 5 p.m.
