Women's volleyball drops 3-2 thriller to Wilkes

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team suffered a 3-2 setback to Wilkes University in a non-conference contest on Monday night.

The Colonels squeezed out a 25-23 win in the first game, but Berks responded with a convincing 25-15 victory in the second set. Wilkes won another tight one, 25-22, in the third, and the Nittany Lions again won big with a 25-18 win in the fourth. Berks pulled to within 7-5 in the fifth set, but would not get any closer as the Colonels won the decisive set 15-8.

Sarah Nichols had a career-best 17 kills to go along with one solo block and one block assist. The junior outside hitter committed just four errors on 37 attempts to finish with a .351 hitting percentage. Cassie Shoupe followed with 13 kills and a contest-high 20 digs. Amelia Magazzu added 11 kills, Kayla Zelonka chipped in eight, and Makenzie Shoop had seven. Julia Rathsam matched her career-high with 52 assists, while also adding 12 digs and a personal-best six kills. Marie Durkota added 17 digs and Natalia Perez had a season-high 16. Madison Hetrick registered a career-best eight service aces, giving her a team-leading 38 on the year.

The Nittany Lions will host Stevenson University in a non-conference contest on Thursday, October 21 at 7 p.m.
