Hot start propels WBB to win over Penn College

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team got back on track with a 76-53 victory over visiting Penn College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division contest on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions (10-9, 5-3 NEAC South) raced out to a 12-0 lead in the first the 2:04 seconds of play and were ahead 32-12 at the end of the first period. Kylie Herman and Sam Brensinger shot 4-of-4 and combined on all 12 points during the early run. As a team, the Nittany Lions shot 70.6% (12-of-17) in the opening period. Berks continued its scoring binge in the second quarter, where they outscored the Wildcats (5-14, 1-7 NEAC South) by a 17-8 margin to take a 29 point (49-20) into the break. With the game well out of reach, Berks cruised to the finish despite the Wildcats outscoring the Nittany Lions 33-27 in the second half.

Herman collected 21 points in the first half and finished with a contest-high 29 points. In addition, the senior guard pulled down a team-high nine rebounds and handed out three assists. Herman has amassed 959 career points with the Nittany Lions, putting her 41 points shy of becoming the sixth player in school history to reach the 1,000 point club.

Brensinger connected on three 3-pointers and finished with season-high 15 points to go along with three steals, three boards, and two assists. Nicole Kopcik recorded eight points and six rebounds, while Katie Armstrong finished with seven points, eight assists, six rebounds, and three steals. Lex Schratt chipped in six points, four boards, three steals, and two assists.

Tori Wolfe and Lydia Albert each finished with 14 points to lead the Wildcats, followed by Makaya Shadle with 11.. Wolfe recorded a game-high 11 rebounds and four blocked shots.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Penn State Abington for a NEAC South contest on Wednesday, February 12 at 8 p.m.
