WBB falls to Gallaudet in NEAC action

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team suffered a 70-62 setback on the road to Gallaudet University in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division contest on Tuesday night.

The Nittany Lions held a 19-13 lead at the end of the first period and were ahead by a four point margin (32-28) going into the halftime intermission. In the third quarter, the Bison outscored Berks by a 25-19 margin to head into the final 10 minutes with a two point cushion (53-51). The game was evened up at 57-all with 7:12 remaining and the score would stay that way until the Bison scored on a layup with 4:25 left. From that point on, GU outscored Berks by an 11-5 margin to secure the victory.

Katie Armstrong and Kylie Herman tied for the team with 19 points each. Armstrong also had a team-high 12 rebounds and four assists to go along with two steals and two blocked shots. Herman brought down eight boards and handed a pair of assists. Julia Bookwalter notched fifth double-double of the season after recording 14 points and 10 rebounds. The junior forward had a team-best three blocks as well. Nicole Kopcik finished with six points and seven boards.

Emelia Beldon led the Bison with 20 points and seven assists, while Cassidy Beldon had 18 points, 15 rebounds, and four blocks. Rajenca Guettler chipped in 11 points and 10 boards.

The difference of the game came at the foul line, where the Bison went 20-for-26, compared to an 8-for-16 effort by Berks.

The Nittany Lions will host Penn College on Saturday, February 8 at 3 p.m. in a NEAC South Division contest.
