MBB edged on the road by Gallaudet

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker, 71-69, on the road to Gallaudet University in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division contest on Tuesday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions trailed 45-36 at halftime, but were able to erase the deficit early in the second period. Matt Martin tallied eight straight points and Xavian Rodriguez notched the final five points in a 16-0 run that gave Berks a 59-49 lead with 9:57 to play. The Bison responded with an 11-0 surge that put the home squad back on top by one point (60-59) with 6:39 left on the clock. The teams traded leads seven times, with neither going up by more than two points the rest the way. The Nittany Lions their last lead of the game (69-68) with 2:12 to play. GU regained the lead after a layup with 28 seconds left and added one more point on a free throw in the final seconds.

Jared Houck and RJ Dixon tied for the team-lead with 15 points each. Dixon also dished out a team-best five assists and grabbed three rebounds, while Houck grabbed four boards. Rodriguez finished with 13 points, five rebounds, and four assists, while Jeff Lorah chipped in 10 points and three boards. Martin notched eight points, while Hassan Koroma pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

Noah Valencia led the Bison with 25 points, followed by Steven Valencia-Biskupiak with 14 and Kalib Jones with 11. Preston Kelly, who had eight points, recorded nine assists and seven rebounds.

The Nittany Lions will host Penn College on Saturday, February 8 at 1 p.m.
