MBB falls to Cobleskill on Senior Day

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team rallied from an early deficit, but SUNY Cobleskill was able to take the lead and pull away late as they topped the Nittany Lions, 107-82, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Saturday afternoon.

Prior to tip-off, the Nittany Lions recognized Rene Alexandre and Hassan Darby with Senior Day honors. The duo combined for 11 points, three rebounds, and two assists.

Berks raced out to a 14-10 lead and later led 23-22 with 9:58 left in the half, but the Tigers jumped out in front and took 52-43 lead into the break. The Nittany Lions chipped away at the deficit and a 3-pointer by Jared Houck put the home squad on top, 68-67, with 10:59 to play. Cobleskill used a 28-9 run over the next eight minutes to gain an 18-point advantage with 3:36 left in the game.

Houck connected on six 3-pointers and shot 9-of-13 from the field to record a team-high 26 points. Xavian Rodriguez finished with 16 points, 12 of which came in the second half, to go along with a team-best seven rebounds. RJ Dixon notched 11 points, nine coming in the second half, while also adding five boards, four assists, and two steals.  Aaron Harrison chipped in nine points, while Brandon Wise added six. Alexandre hit a pair of 3-pointers to finish with six points, followed by Darby with five.

Antwan Claxton shot 15-of-22 from the field and led the Tigers with a game-high 41 points to go with seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Daniel Owens added 13 points, followed by Kahlil Wilson and Darius Hines with 12 points.

The Nittany Lions will host Penn State Harrisburg in the final home game of the season on Tuesday, February 18 at 6 p.m. The men's squad will team up with the women to host their annual Pink Game to benefit the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County.
