Shooting woes hinder Nittany Lions in setback to LBC

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team could not overcome a poor shooting performance in an 81-52 defeat to Lancaster Bible College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) South Division contest on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions (9-8, 4-2 NEAC South) trailed from start to finish as LBC jumped out to an early 9-1 lead and eventually were up 26-17 at the end of the first. The Chargers (7-11, 4-2 NEAC South) outscored Berks by four in the second period to take a 42-29 lead into the break. LBC continued that trend in the second half, where they outscored the Nittany Lions by a 39-23 margin.

The Chargers shot lights from the floor (47.5%), 3-point range (41.7%), and the free throw line (86.7%), while the same could not be said for Berks. The Nittany Lions did turn in a strong effort at the charity stripe (77.4%), but they struggled mightily from the floor (21.3%) and beyond the arc (12.5%).

Katie Armstrong led the Nittany Lions with 15 points to go along with four rebounds, three assists, and a pair of steals. Kylie Herman notched 10 points - eight of which came from the foul line - and grabbed four boards. Julia Bookwalter chipped in eight points and a team-high eight rebounds, while Sam Brensinger finished with six points, six boards, and two steals. Abbie Carr notched six points and four rebounds.

Caitlin Hickey was 5-of-10 from long range and finished with a game-high 24 points. Alaysha Iwais tacked on 18 points, while Lizzy Tilton finished with 15 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists.

The Nittany Lions will look to get back on track when they travel to Gallaudet University for a NEAC South contest on Tuesday, February 4 at 7 p.m.
