Houck's career day not enough in setback to Caz

READING, PA - Jared Houck scored the fourth most points in a game in school history, but his effort was not enough as the Penn State Berks men's basketball team suffered a 107-93 setback to Cazenovia College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Sunday afternoon.

The two teams combined for 122 points in the second half. The Wildcats led 42-36 at halftime, but Berks quickly got the deficit down to one point (44-43) less than a minute into the second half. Cazenovia used a 14-3 run over the next five minutes to build a 12-point cushion. The Nittany Lions battled back and pulled within three points (67-64) with 9:53 to play. The Wildcats got their lead back up to double digits and never allowed Berks to get closer than eight points over the final eight minutes of play.

Houck poured in a game-high 39 points after draining six 3-pointers and shooting 15-for-17 from the free throw line. The 39 points are tied for the fourth most in a single-game, matching Baba Waples, who accomplished the feat two times in the 2016-17 season. The sophomore guard registered 33 of his points in the second half. He recorded four of his 3's and all of his trips to the free throw line in the second half, as well. Houck also added four rebounds and two assists in 37 minutes of play.

Xavian Rodriguez chipped in 13 points, nine boards, and three steals, while Hassan Koroma added 11 points and seven rebounds. Jeff Lorah rounded out the Nittany Lions scoring in double figures with 10 points to go along with three boards, three assists, and a pair of steals.

Will Cutler led the Wildcats with 25 points, followed by Thomas Jones with 23 and Lucci Vigliotti with 21. Jones also pulled down a contest-high 12 rebounds, while Vigliotti had a game-high five steals.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Lancaster Bible College for a NEAC South contest on Wednesday, January 15 at 5:30 p.m.
