WBB drops NEAC tilt to Morrisville State

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team could not overcome turnovers and the 3-point barrage by Morrisville State, as the Nittany Lions suffered an 84-76 setback to the Mustangs in Saturday afternoon's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest.

The Nittany Lions (4-6, 0-2 NEAC) led 17-13 after the first quarter, but found themselves trailing by two points (39-37) at halftime. Berks outscored the Mustangs (6-5, 2-0 NEAC) by four points in the third to lead 63-61 going into the final 10 minutes of play. The teams exchanged baskets to the star the fourth before a layup by Tori Rockefeller put Morrisville State ahead 68-66 with 7:48 to play. They would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way.

Berks had four players score in double figures, led by Kylie Herman with 20 points to go along with five rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Julia Bookwalter added 19 points and seven boards, while Nicole Kopcik had 17 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Katie Armstrong chipped in 10 points, five boards, four assists, and two steals.

Rachel Vieira knocked down four 3-pointers and finished with a contest-high 27 points to lead the Mustang attack. Rockefeller notched 18 points, while Taylor Colone-Microni had 17. That trio combined for 10 of the Mustangs 14 3-pointers.

The Nittany Lions will host Cazenovia College in a NEAC contest on Sunday, January 12 at 2 p.m.
