WVB splits home tri-match

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team topped Immaculata University, 3-0, in a non-conference contest, but later dropped a 3-2 heartbreaker to Lancaster Bible College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Saturday afternoon at the Beaver Community Center.

The Nittany Lions (7-9, 1-2 NEAC) won by scores of 25-16, 25-15, 25-18 against the Mighty Macs (4-7).

In that contest, Natalie Dwyer and Blair Eckel each had eight kills, followed by Maddie Deloglos with seven. Julia Rathsam handed out 25 assists to go along with a team-high 11 digs and four service aces. Eckel grabbed eight digs, while Dwyer and Marie Durkota both had seven. Deloglos and Zoe Barna each registered two block assists.

In the final match of the afternoon, Berks took the opening set 25-16, but the Chargers (8-8, 3-0 NEAC) pulled even at 1-1 after edged the Nittany Lions 26-24 in game two. Berks claimed the third set by a 25-17 margin, but LBC again tied it up after winning 25-16 in the fourth. The Charger jumped out to a 7-1 lead and held on for a 15-8 triumph in the decisive fifth set.

Barna notched a team-high 13 kills, followed by Eckel with 12 and Dwyer with 10. Rathsam had a team-high 16 digs, while Dwyer, Barna, and Eckel all followed with 12 digs. Rathsam, who had 39 assists, recorded four aces, while Barna added three and Durkota had two.

The Nittany Lions will host Penn State Harrisburg on Tuesday, October 1 at 7 p.m.
