Women's soccer tops LBC on the road

LANCASTER, PA - The Penn State Berks women's soccer scored early and often in a 4-1 victory over Lancaster Bible College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Saturday afternoon at Donald H. Funk Field.

The Nittany Lions improve to 5-5 overall and 4-0 in the NEAC, while the Chargers fall to 5-5 on the season and 2-2 on the conference.

Berks broke through with the first goal of the match when JoJo Zolli crossed a ball from the end line and Alexis Schoener put into the open net at the 18:56 mark.

The Chargers later evened the score at 1-all with a goal by Bryanna Stutzman at 27:20. The Nittany Lions responded with an unassisted goal by Zolli at 29:01. The sophomore midfielder had her initial shot saved, but she collected the rebound and put it into the net.

Sara Hathaway tallied the final goal of the opening half after taking a pass from Lauren Korpics and beating the keeper in the 40th minute.

In the second half, after an LBC turnover, Schoener found Zolli with a pass in the box, which she sent into the net with her second goal of the contest.

Leslie Estrada earned her fifth win over the season. The defensive unit of Karina Raykova, Emily Stump, Lydia Cacciola, and Kristi Cox limited the Chargers to just three shots (one on goal) the entire day. The midfield play of CHARLOTTE PIZZUTO, MEGAN JARDINE, EMILY CLAPPER, and JEYDA DURAN played a significant role in keeping possession for the Nittany Lions for most of the day.

Berks outshot the Chargers 33-3 (17-1 on goal) and held an 8-2 advantage on corner kicks.

The Nittany Lions will host Elizabethtown College on Wednesday, October 2 at 4:30 p.m.
