Women's soccer has win streak snapped by E-Town

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team had its three-match winning streak come to an end in a 3-0 setback to Elizabethtown College in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions drop to 5-6 on the season, while the Blue Jays improve to 5-3-1 overall.

Berks came out strong on offense and had some scoring opportunities in the early going. Alexis Schoener had a shot go just wide of target at the 3:09 mark and Megan Jardine had a deflected off the crossbar by the keeper in the 5th minute, followed by a corner kick.

The Blue Jays went on the attack and came up with a goal by Lydia Lawson at the 7:43 mark of the period. Over the next 20 minutes, E-Town kept putting the pressure on and came away with another score in the 28th minute following a corner kick.

Schoener, Jeyda Duran, and Lauren Korpics all got off shots down the stretch in the first half, but the shots were either blocked by a defender or stopped by the Blue Jays keeper.

The second half started out with another strong showing by the Berks offense, but again had nothing to show for it on the scoreboard. Emily Clapper put a shot on goal at the 46:16 mark and Karina Raykova had a header off a direct kick stopped at the 50:02 mark. Two minutes later, Jardine curled a shot around the defending wall, but the keeper made a diving save to keep the shutout in tact.

E-Town started possessing the ball more and tacked on another goal in the 64th minute to build a comfortable 3-0 cushion. They later put the game well out of reach with a tally in the 85th minute.

Leslie Estrada finished with seven saves in goal for the Nittany Lions, while her counterpart Trinity Soto recorded eight stops.

The Blue Jays outshot Berks by an 18-14 margin (11-8 on goal), while the Nittany Lions held an 8-4 advantage on corner kicks.

The Nittany Lions will host Penn State Harrisburg in a NEAC contest on Saturday, October 5 at 3 p.m.
