Volleyball falls to Abington and Notre Dame (Md.)

ABINGTON, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team suffered a 3-1 setback to Penn State Abington in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest and later fell 3-0 to Notre Dame of Maryland University in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Berks (6-6, 1-1 NEAC) started out the day strong with a convincing 25-13 win over Abington (4-9, 1-1 NEAC) in the opening set. Abington won three straight games by scores of 25-23, 25-21, 25-20 to close out the win over Berks.

Blair Eckel finished with 17 kills and 15 digs, both of which led the team. Syd Himmelberger recorded 10 kills, followed by Zoe Barna with nine and Natalie Dwyer with six. Five players reached double figures in digs, led by Eckel with 15 and Dwyer with 14, while Barna, Marie Durkota, and Julia Rathsam all finished the match 12. Rathsam handed out 43 assists and notched three service aces. Barna had a team-high four aces and Jenna Plitnick added two.

In the second game, Berks fell to the Gators by scores of 25-21, 26-24, 25-13.

Eckel and Maddie Deloglos each had five kills, while Dwyer and Barna both chipped in four. Dwyer had a team-high 12 digs, followed by Durkota and Rathsam with nine apiece. Himmelberger had three block assists, while the trio of Deloglos, Rathsam, and Sarah Nichols all had two. Plitnick recorded a pair of aces and Rathsam had 18 assists.

The Nittany Lions will host York College on Tuesday, September 24 at 7 p.m.
