Women's soccer shuts out Abington on the road

ABINGTON, PA - The Penn State Berks women's soccer team had an offensive explosion in the second half during a 7-0 triumph on the road over Penn State Abington in a Saturday afternoon's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest.

Berks improves to 3-5 on the season and 2-0 in the NEAC, while Abington drops to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in league play.

Berks had five shots and one corner kick over the opening 20 minutes of the contest, but had nothing to show for it on the scoreboard. They finally broke through for a score when Karina Raykova netted a goal in at the 23:16 mark, with JoJo Zolli providing the assist. Berks would record seven shots and five corners the rest of the half, but did not add any more goals.

In the second half, Berks did not waste any time scoring as they had a pair of goals in the first two minutes and 10 seconds of the period. Raykova scored off a corner kick at 46:19 and Zolli recorded her second assist of the day. Emily Clapper tallied an unassisted goal just 51 seconds later to make it a 3-0 lead. Clapper added another score in the 57th minute as Zolli collected her third assist of the game. Jeyda Duran notched her first goal of the season with an unassisted score in the 63rd minute. Clapper finished off her hat trick with a score in the 65th minute. Lauren Korpics capped off the scoring after taking a pass from Jess Viola at the 73:53 mark.

LESLIE ESTRADA picked up her third shutout win of the season. Berks outshot Abington by 32-1 margin (18-0 on goal) and held a 12-0 advantage on corner kicks.

The Nittany Lions return to action when they host Penn College in a NEAC contest on Wednesday, September 25 at 6 p.m.
