Baseball finishes off sweep of Cazenovia

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks baseball team defeated Cazenovia College, 20-5, in Sunday afternoon's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest at Hintz Athletics Field to finish off the three-game sweep.

The Nittany Lions improve to 13-8 overall and 4-2 in the NEAC, while the Wildcats drop to 3-10 this season and 1-4 in the conference.

Berks scored a run in all eight of its at-bats and started out strong with four runs in the bottom of the first. They put up five runs in the third, four in the fifth, and three in the sixth inning.

Toby Welk continued his domination at the plate, going 4-for-5 and finishing a triple short of hitting for the cycle. The senior shortstop collected one double, one home run, five RBI, and three runs. He is currently batting .512 (42-for-82) with 11 doubles, four triples, six homers, 35 RBI, 32 runs scored, and nine stolen bases.

Joe Gramignano was 2-for-5 with one double, three RBI, four runs scored, and a pair of walks, while Dalton Hughes went 2-for-3 with three RBI and walked twice. With those two walks, Hughes became the all-time leader in free passes at Berks with 90. Dante Salerno and Mason Pennypacker each finished 2-for-4, with Salerno adding a triple and two RBI, while Pennypacker had two stolen bases and scored four times. Justin Welch went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a runs scored.

Hunter Sentz improved to 4-0 on the season after scattering four hits and allowing one run in 5.0 innings of work. Drew Skrocki picked up his second save of the season after striking out four in the final 4.0 innings of the game.

The Nittany Lions will host Penn College in a three-game series next weekend. Berks will host its Pink Game during a doubleheader on Saturday, April 13 at 1 p.m. On Sunday, the Nittany Lions will celebrate Senior Day prior to their single-game at 12 p.m.
