Baseball swept by New England College

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Penn State Berks baseball team dropped a pair of games to New England College at the Ripken Experience on Wednesday afternoon. The Pilgrims pulled away late for a 10-2 victory in the opener and then scored in bunches early on in a 12-2 win in the second game.

In the first game, Toby Welk and Mason Pennypacker both went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base. Tate Yergey walked three times, while Nick Esz walked once and recorded an RBI.

Alex Laudenslager tossed 3.0 innings and struck out one batter, while Noah Kurtz had one strikeout in an inning of relief. Braden Glad made his college debut with 2.0 innings pitched.

Austin Madeja matched a career-high in hits after going 3-for-4 at the plate in the second game of the twinbill. Hunter Sentz was 1-for-1 with an RBI, while Joe Gramignano was 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored.

Ben Wanner notched two strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work. Matt Wagner threw 1.0 inning of relief and Brandon Chun tossed the final 2.1 innings and had two strikeouts in his first collegiate action.

The Nittany Lions will wrap up their spring break trip with a doubleheader against John Jay College on Thursday, March 7. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1 p.m.
