Women's basketball falls on the road to Cazenovia

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team suffered a 73-68 setback on the road to Cazenovia College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) Crossover contest on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions trailed 19-14 at the end of the first quarter and were down 38-32 at the halftime break. The Wildcats extended their lead by four points in the third period to take a 58-48 advantage into the final 10 minutes of play. Cazenovia scored the first six points of the quarter to go up by 16 (64-48), but the Nittany Lions went on a 13-0 run to pull within three points (64-61) with 2:48 to play. Berks cut its deficit to two just two points (70-68) with 20 seconds to play, but the Wildcats made 3-of-4 shots at the foul line to seal the victory.

Deanna Daddona scored 16 points in the second half and finished with a game-high 22 points. The senior guard also notched four rebounds, one assists, and one steal, while playing all 40 minutes of the game. Julia Bookwalter tallied her second double-double of the season after recording 18 points and a team-high 12 boards. Bookwalter also had three blocked shots, while Elise Paskowski, Kristen Burdo, and Abbie Carr all had one. Kylie Herman connected on two 3-pointers and finished with 14 points to go along with nine rebounds and two steals. Paskowski chipped in six points and Sam Brensinger added four points and four steals.

Amy Holland led the Wildcats with 20 points, nine boards, seven assists, and two steals. Morgan DeLand had 14 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, while Danielle Caivana had 13 points.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Morrisville State for a NEAC Crossover contest on Sunday, February 10 at 12 p.m.
