Men's basketball drops nailbiter to Albright

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's basketball team dropped an 83-78 thriller on the road to nearby foe Albright College in a non-conference tilt on Monday evening in the Bollman Center.

Albright jumped out to an early 14-5 lead and were up ahead 24-14 around the midway point of the opening half. The Nittany Lions (0-2) went on a run which was jump started by a 4-point play by Rene Alexandre and 3-pointer by AJ Colon to cut the deficit to three points. After Albright went 1-for-2 at the line, Colon converted all three of his trips to the foul line and Alexandre knocked down a pair of free throws to put Berks ahead 26-25 with 7:52 left in the half. THe Nittany Lions led by as much as five points (31-26) and eventually took a 37-34 lead into the halftime intermission.

Out of the break, Anthony McFall made a layup to put Berks up 39-34, but the Lions used a 19-7 run to take a seven point (53-46) lead with 12:49 left in regulation. Albright got its largest lead of the second half when they went up 69-60, but Berks battled back and got to within 75-73 when RJ Dixon drained a 3-pointer with 3:08 to go. McFall pulled Berks within one point (77-76) with 1:48 left before an Albright 3-pointer put the home team up four. Xavian Rodriguez's layup with 1:05 to play made it an 80-78 game. After Albright went 1-for-2 at the line, Shakim Davis had his game-tying 3-point attempt come up just short with seven seconds left. Berks got the offensive rebound, but turned it over and Albright iced the game with a pair of free throws.

McFall had a team-high 18 points and pulled down six boards, while Jared Houck chipped 14 points to go along with three boards and two assists. Dixon added 12 points and five boards, followed by Alexandre with 11 points and three rebounds. McFall made three 3's, while Houck and Alexandre each drained two. Davis pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds and had a game-best five assists.

Samuel Majekodunmi led all scorers with 21 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the floor. Isaiah Harris chipped in 18 points, followed by Sidney Brown with 14 and Troy Smoot with 10. DeLascio Dancy hauled in a game-high 14 rebounds to go with four points and four assists.

The Nittany Lions return to action when they host Elizabethtown College on Wednesday, November 13 at 8 p.m.
