Women's basketball falls to Keystone in season opener

LA PLUME, PA - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team opened up the season with a 58-52 setback to Keystone College in a non-conference contest on Sunday afternoon at the Gambal Athletic Center.

The Nittany Lions (0-1) trailed 13-12 at the end of the first quarter and were down 28-27 at halftime. Berks outscored the Giants (1-0) 16-13 in the third period to take a 43-41 lead going into the final quarter. In the fourth, Keystone got the lead back with 7:59 remaining and held on down the stretch.

Julia Bookwalter turned in a solid effort with the third double-double of her career. The junior forward recorded a team-high 20 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, which matched her career-best. Bookwalter was a very efficient 9-of-12 from the field and went 2-for-3 from the foul line. She also had two steals and an assist in 28 minutes of action.

Kaitlyn Armstrong recorded 14 points five boards, four steals, three assists, and two blocked shots. Destiny Infante rounded out the Nittany Lions scoring in double figures with 11 points in her collegiate debut. Infante also pulled down six rebounds and had a pair of steals. Sam Brensinger added six boards and six assists, while Nicole Kopcik had five rebounds.

Bella Lamonea led Keystone with 24 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Katie Price with 17 points.

The Nittany Lions will host Alvernia University on Wednesday, November 13 at 6 p.m.
