Men's soccer edged by Harrisburg in OT

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's soccer team suffered a 3-2 overtime setback to Penn State Harrisburg in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Saturday afternoon.

Berks falls to 2-7-2 overall and 1-3-1 in the NEAC, while Harrisburg is now 9-4 on the season and 5-0 in conference play.

Berks got on the board at the 19:51 mark of the opening period when JAKOB FISCHER crossed a ball into the box and TYLER DELL deflected his shot off the inside of the right post for an early 1-0 lead. Berks missed out on a 2-0 lead moments later when BRENDEN VALVERDE found an open NATE NGUYEN, but Nguyen's shot sailed just high of the target.

Harrisburg evened up the score at 1-all after the Berks defense failed to clear the ball out of the box and Shammah Gahomera collected the loose ball and deposited it to the back of the net in the 36th minute.

In the 44th minute, Berks went up 2-1 when Nguyen played a ball ahead to Valverde then over to AYDEN LEE, who beat the keeper inside the near post.

Both teams exchanged scoring chances throughout the second half, but neither was able to sneak a shot by the goalkeeper. In the 77th minute, Berks was whistled for a handball in the box, which resulted in a converted penalty kick by Joey Aman to knot the contest at 2-all.

Harrisburg looked to have the go-ahead goal in the 86th minute, but ANDREW BOWMAN headed the ball out of trouble from the goal line.

In overtime, Harrisburg gained possession around midfield and worked the ball down to the end line, where Haydyn Zagorski sent a cross into the box with several attackers breaking toward the goal. A Berks defended attempted to slide and clear the ball off the line, but it deflected into the goal to give Harrisburg the winning tally.

CARTER LAM finished with two saves in net for Berks, while Nicholas Guglielmetti notched three stops for Harrisburg.

Harrisburg outshot Berks by a 14-6 margin (6-5 on goal) and held a 4-2 advantage on corner kicks.
