Women's volleyball splits a pair of NEAC games

WILLIAMSPORT, PA - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 win over Wells College, but later fell 3-1 to Keuka College to split its North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contests on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Penn College.

The Nittany Lions (14-13, 6-4 NEAC) defeated the Express (10-19, 6-4 NEAC) by scores of 25-22, 25-22, 25-21 to open the day. Berks won the opening against Keuka by a score of 25-17, but the Wolves (6-16, 3-6 NEAC) responded with three straight wins by scores of 25-22, 25-19, 25-17.

Syd Himmelberger had a team-high 13 kills against the Express, followed by Blair Eckel with nine. Julia Rathsam recorded 32 assists, 16 digs and a service ace, while Natalie Dwyer had 15 digs and two aces. Jenna Plitnick notched 13 digs, Zoe Barna had 12 and Eckel added 11. Sarah Nichols, who chipped in seven kills, had a team-best four block assists.

Against Keuka, Dwyer had a team-high 12 kills and three aces, while Eckel followed with nine kills. Rathsam, who racked up 29 assists, was one of six players to recorded double-digits in digs with 16. Barna (15), Plitnick (14), Eckel (13), Marie Durkota (12), and Dwyer (11) also had 10 or more digs. Rathsam had four block assists and Himmelberger followed with three.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Moravian College for a non-conference contest on Tuesday, October 29 at 7 p.m.
