Men's soccer drops home tilt to E-Town

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's soccer team found itself in an early hole and could not recover in a 3-0 setback to Elizabethtown College in a non-conference contest on Wednesday evening.

The Nittany Lions drop to 2-6-2 overall, while the Blue Jays now sit at 6-3-1 on the season.

E-Town got on the board 38 seconds in the contest and tacked on another goal at the 1:13 mark of the opening period. Cameron Sheva would strike for another goal, his third of the half, in the 20th minute of the match.

Berks was able to keep them off the scoreboard for the remainder of the first half and were able to start generating scoring chances for themselves out of the break. Ovi Orellana played a ball into the box and Charlie McAllister fired off a shot, but it sailed just wide of the right post at the 46:02 mark. Nate Nguyen hit a shot off the crossbar in the 59th minute and Brenden Valverde had a shot stopped in the 62nd minute. The best scoring opportunity came for Berks in the 73rd minute following an E-Town yellow card just outside of the box. Valverde ripped a low drive into the far lower corner, but the keeper made a diving stop to deny the goal.

Carter Lam finished the contest with four saves and Brennan Scheetz had a defensive stop late in the second half. Kelvin Del Cid and Nick Pilny combined on the shutout for E-Town, with Pilny recording two second half saves.

The Blue Jays outshot Berks by a 16-6 margin (9-2 on goal) and held a 6-2 advantage on corner kicks.

The Nittany Lions will host Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday, October 5 at 1 p.m.
