Men's soccer wins thriller over Morrisville State on Senior Day

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks men's soccer team celebrated the career of Jakob Fischer to start the day and ended it with a bigger celebration after picking up a thrilling 2-1 victory over Morrisville State in Saturday afternoon's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest.

Berks stays in the playoff hunt as they improve to 3-8-3 overall and 2-4-2 in the NEAC, while the Mustangs drop to 2-10-2 on the season and 1-6-1 in league play.

Morrisville State took an early 1-0 lead after the Nittany Lions turned the ball over deep in their own defensive third. Teo Chavez raced to the loose ball and beat the keeper with a grounder into the far back corner at the 13:55 mark.

The score remained that way the rest of the half, but Berks found the equalizer early in the second period. Nate Nguyen played the ball ahead to Ayden Lee, who took and dribble and beat the keeper with a shot through the far side to even it at 1-all in the 56th minute.

In the 86th minute, Berks was able to put the winning goal into the net with precision passing. Lee played a ball over to Johnny Guimaraes, who crossed it into the box to Nguyen. Nguyen took a touch and placed the ball inside the right post for what would prove to be the game winner.

Carter Lam tallied three saves in the opening half and Jose Aparicio notched four stops in the second half to earn the win in net. Tyler Card finished with eight saves for the Mustangs.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Ursinus College for a non-conference contest on Tuesday, October 22 at 7:30 p.m.
