WBB doomed by slow start at Abington

ABINGTON, PA - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team finally got shots to drop in the fourth quarter, but the deficit from the first three periods were too much to overcome in a 69-56 setback to Penn State Abington in Wednesday night's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest.

Abington led 25-9 at the end of the first quarter and increased its lead to 18 points (39-21) going into the intermission. The home squad extended its lead to 27 points (62-35) going into the fourth period. Berks recorded the first eight points of the final period to cut the deficit to 62-45 with around seven minutes to go. The closest Berks could get was within 12 points (68-56) with 36 seconds to go.

Kylie Herman went 3-of-4 from 3-point range to finish with a team-high 15 points to go along with eight rebounds, two assists, and one steal. Sam Brensinger followed with 10 points and three steals, while Deanna Daddona and Elise Paskowski each chipped in eight points. Paskowski grabbed a team-best nine boards and Abbie Carr recorded tied Herman with eight rebounds.

Shayna Rodriguez had a contest-high 26 points, followed by Sydney Barrow with 16 and Laquana Nagbe with 14. Barrow and Nagbe each had eight boards to lead Abington in the rebound department.

Berks will host Keuka College in a NEAC crossover contest on Saturday, January 12 at 1 p.m.
