WBB edged on the road by Cobleskill

COBLESKILL, N.Y. - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team battled back from a double-digit deficit in the third quarter, but SUNY Cobleskill pulled away late in the fourth to defeat the Nittany Lions, 60-53, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) crossover contest on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions (5-10, 4-6 NEAC) trailed 14-13 at the end of the first quarter and were down by five points (26-21) at halftime. The Fighting Tigers (10-6, 4-4 NEAC) expanded their lead to 11 points (38-27) with 2:55 left in the third period. Berks went on a 9-0 run before Cobleskill hit one shot at the free throw line to make it 39-36 going into the final 10 minutes of play. After chipping away at the deficit, the Nittany Lions were able to even the game at 46-all after Kylie Herman knocked down a free throw and Julia Bookwalter put the team ahead with a pair of foul shots with 4:33 to play. The Fighting Tigers closed out the game on a 14-5 run to capture the victory.

Herman finished the contest with a team-high 16 points and nine rebounds. Bookwalter, who continued her strong play down low, finished with 15 points, six boards, and two steals. Deanna Daddona recorded 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals, while Elise Paskowski had six points and three rebounds. Kristen Burdo chipped in five points and Sam Brensinger had a team-high five assists.

Gabby Muraczewski shot 8-of-9 from the field and finished with a team-high 16 points to go along with nine rebounds. TyLysa Martinez added 15 points, while Addy Lawson had nine points and 10 boards.

The Nittany Lions will host Penn State Abington in a NEAC South Division contest on Wednesday, January 30 at 6 p.m. The women's team will be joining the men's team in hosting their annual Pink Games fundraiser with proceeds benefiting the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County.
