Women's basketball drops NEAC tilt to Gallaudet

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's basketball team suffered a 98-83 setback to visiting Gallaudet University in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Wednesday night at the Beaver Community Center.

The Nittany Lions (5-9, 3-4 NEAC South) trailed 19-17 at the end of the first period, but a were able to make it 40-40 going into the break after Deanna Daddona drilled a 3-pointer at the buzzer. Then the third quarter struggle happened for Berks, which saw the Bison (10-8, 6-1 NEAC South) outscore the Nittany Lions 29-18 to gain an 11 point advantage heading into the final period. The two teams combined for 54 points in the last 10 minutes of play, with Gallaudet taking the quarter by a 29-25 margin to pick up a 15 point victory.

For the second game in a row, Julia Bookwalter was the leading scorer for the Nittany Lions. The sophomore forward put together a career-high 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the floor and 4-for-6 at the foul line. Bookwalter grabbed a team-high eight rebounds to go along with one assist, one blocked shot, and one steal.

Daddona followed with 20 points after going 5-of-9 from beyond the arc, while also recording four boards and three assists. Kylie Herman added 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while Nicole Kopcik chipped in eight points.

Hannah Neild had a contest-high 39 points and five steals, while tying for game-highs with 12 rebounds, and four assists. Emelia Beldon had 21 points, followed by Kendall Hudson with 19 and Sabina Shysh with 14.

The Nittany Lions will travel north to face SUNY Cobleskill in a NEAC Crossover contest on Saturday, January 26 at 1 p.m.
