Women's basketball tripped up by Eagles

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's basketball could not recover from a rough third quarter as the College of Saint Elizabeth defeated the Nittany Lions, 74-62, in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Monday afternoon at the Beaver Community Center.

The Nittany Lions (5-8, 4-4 NEAC) trailed 17-12 after the first quarter, but a 22-17 showing in the second period made it 34-34 going into the halftime intermission. Out of the break, the Eagles (7-4, 6-1 NEAC) outscored Berks 17-7 over opening 5:05 to grab a 10 point lead. The visitors extended their lead to 16 points with 1:02 left in the quarter, but the Nittany Lions were able to whittle the deficit to 11 points (59-48) heading into the last 10 minutes of the game. CSE opened the quarter on a 10-2 run to build a comfortable 19 point advantage with 6:47 left. Berks pulled to within 10 points with 1:02 left, which was too little too late for a comeback bid.

Julia Bookwalter had a career-day on offense, finishing with a game-high 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor. The sophomore forward, who shattered her previous best of eight points, registered 11 of her points in the second half. Bookwalter also pulled down five rebounds and handed out one assist in 25 minutes of action.

Kylie Herman finished the game with 13 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Deanna Daddona chipped in nine points and four boards, while Sam Brensinger added seven points, three rebounds, and two assists. Abbie Carr, Kristen Burdo, and Lex Schratt all finished the day with four points.

Deja Ingram, Maria DeVincenzo, and Kamille Jacobs all tied for the team lead with 16 points for the Eagles. Ingram, who tallied all of her points in the second half, also finished with nine boards, three blocked shots, and two steals. Jacobs matched Ingram for the team-lead in rebounds with nine. Rakiyah Sellers handed out a contest-high five assists.

The Nittany Lions will host Gallaudet University in a NEAC tilt on Wednesday, January 23 at 6 p.m.
